چکیده

In this contribution a modified scheme for linear prediction analysis is presented which controls the degree of decorrelation by a parameter α. In consideration of this parameter the signal to noise ratio of a linear predictive coding scheme is investigated and finally maximized for open loop quantization. Also, the new parameter can be used to control the spectral shape of the quantization error in the decoder output. As result the signal to noise ratio of the reconstructed signal can be increased for open loop quantization compared to conventional prediction analysis, and at the same time the perceptual encoding quality benefits from a moderate spectral shaping of the quantization noise in the decoded signal.

Time-Mode Signal Quantization for Use in Sigma-Delta Modulators

The rapid scaling in modern CMOS technology has motivated the researchers to design new analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architectures that can properly work in lower supply voltage. An exchanging the data quantization procedure from the amplitude to the time domain, can be a promising alternative well adapt with the technology scaling. This paper is going to review the recent development in t...

Improved Speech Coding Based on Open-Loop Parameter Estimation

A nonlinear optimization algorithm for linear predictive speech coding was developed early that not only optimizes the linear model coefficients for the open loop predictor, but does the optimization including the effects of quantization of the transmitted residual. It also simultaneously optimizes the quantization levels used for each speech segment. In this paper, we present an improved metho...

Efficient Linearisation of Sigma-Delta Modulators using Single-Bit Dither

Sigma-delta modulation, where a single-bit quantiser is embedded within a negative feedback loop (Fig. 1), is now a commonly-used technique for implementing high-resolution analogue-to-digital and digital-toanalogue converters (DACs), principally because of a favourable insensitivity to component tolerancing [1]. Single-bit quantisation generates relatively high levels of quantisation noise, he...

Improving perceptual coding of narrowband audio signals at low rates

This paper discusses perceptual coding of narrowband audio signals at low rates. In particular, it proposes a new error measure which shapes the noise inside the critical bands, a window switching criterion based on the temporal masking effect of the hearing system, a more accurate model of the simultaneous masking effect of the hearing system, perceptually-based bit allocation algorithms based...

Noise reduction in oversampled filter banks using predictive quantization

We introduce two methods for quantization noise reduction in oversampled filter banks. These methods are based on predictive quantization (noise shaping or linear prediction). It is demonstrated that oversampled noise shaping or linear predictive subband coders are well suited for subband coding applications where, for technological or other reasons, low-resolution quantizers have to be used. I...
